![]() ![]() On the part of raising our consciousness above the mundane, we should treat both triumph and disaster, the same. Such an insight will give us the courage and power to do the right thing to take those much-needed first steps, and reclaim our lives. And, slowly the inner struggle which kept gnawing at us will begin to fade. When we know the “why?”, we will figure out the “how’s”. Those sleepless nights, the terror, and desperation do have a reason and it is our purpose to make sense of it. We need to crush them and extract what they are offering. We must stop running away and deliberately choose to take it head on! In fact, we need to deal with our insecurities and anxieties, and overcome those depressing concerns. Consciously choosing to face every bit of that uncomfortable truth, sitting with it and learning what it is trying to teach. The answer might lie in embracing it wholeheartedly and living it in and out. Our obliviousness will only keep postponing the issue, and it will keep reappearing again until it has been properly dealt with. All those escape mechanisms – denial, repression, overindulgence, workaholism, or drugs (Prescribed or otherwise) will only provide a temporary respite. Conceivably, we need pain and suffering to broaden our perspective. By experiencing only one, we cannot simply grasp the whole gambit of the concepts involved. ![]() Henceforth diving into philosophical waters, one can realize that our lives are carefully designed to experience both ends of the spectrum. Therefore, everything exists in pairs of opposing natures. From the perspective of physics, every action has an equal reaction, for every matter that exists there has to be an antimatter, etc. The world we live in is dual – light/dark, positive/negative, joy/misery, hope/despair, and pleasure/pain. That something inside which keeps telling us that we are not ready and stops us, might be pointing at something bigger than the usual concerns of existential needs. Our repeated attempts to circumvent or numb it down and our sustained failure to do so, might suggest that our quota of suffering may not be over yet. If our lives have meaning then our suffering, no matter how nasty or agonizing should also have meaning. Perhaps, I am just pondering an alternate approach. This might seem depressing, but I am not attempting here to help you in the usual sense. Like in the saying, ‘a known devil is better than an unknown angel.’ ![]() If by chance life throws some positive bits, we are scared to lose that pathetic yet weirdly comfortable spot. Or for someone with a magic wand, to fix everything wrong in our lives. We keep waiting! Waiting for something to happen, or something to stop happening waiting for that perfect day, when everything falls into place. The fact that we are stuck in the wrong place, wasting our potential, ruining our health, or being in an abusive relationship is pretty much obvious to us.Īnd yet, we choose to stay where we are, in those very chaotic and sabotaging circumstances. Except we know in our conscience that we are making a cheap bargain, and this starts eating us from inside. While we are figuring out the situation, life throws in more crap and virtually kills even the last bit of hope.Įventually, we begin to accept mediocrity and try to make friends with life again, so that it stops bothering us. With seemingly no way out, we feel stuck, vulnerable, and despondent. Sometimes in life, we reach an impasse it feels like life has given us a checkmate.
